Camo Confidence

While wearing these leggings one day, a lady stopped me and said 'I can't believe you are wearing those.'

I can't even lie.  I was mad at first.  I mean, these camo leggings are fabulous and I look fabulous in them (shameless plug)...so what is the problem lady!?

But before I could even form my mouth to make a statement, she followed up with 'I could never have the confidence to pull those off.'

I had to pause.  I have been there before.  She was me.

After I mentally told the little tear on it's way out to chill, I gave her a hug and said "Ma'am, you can wear, do and be anything!"

And here is the part that killed me...

She looked at me as if nobody had told her that before.  How could this be?  She was more seasoned than me.  Lived more life than me.  And nobody ever looked her in her beautiful face and told her she was amazing?

That's disgusting and unfortunately common.  I myself have encountered many women who simply do not know that they can do ANYTHING.

If you are one of them, please look at yourself in the mirror today.  In the reflection is an amazing woman who was meticulously fashioned to be the only YOU to walk this earth.  No matter what anyone says or does to you, that fact will NEVER change.  There are things that only you can accomplish, be and show.  You have a unique, one of a kind blessing.  Never forget the power that you possess that can never be taken away.

If you know this, are on your way to knowing it, or just realized it...share it. Show it.  Walk in it with every step.  Be the person that looks someone in their beautiful face and tells her how absolutely, unequivocally amazing she is.

Can you imagine what our world would be like if we all did this?

What Alicia Jay Wears to Work

Click the pic to see the full feature. When self proclaimed writer, tall people advocate and out-the-box thinker Arianne Cohen asked me if I wanted to participate in Bloomberg Buisnessweek's What I Wear to Work feature, I muffled my screams of excitement and said yes in the calmest way I possibly could.

For those of you who don't know, when I am not blogging about tall, fabulous fashion I am the Game Operations Manager for the Golden State Warriors.  In a nutshell, I manage the entertainment and in-game fan experience for all Warriors home and Playoff games (#WarriorsGround #DubNation).

With that said, they wanted the shoot to be in the workplace (for obvious reasons) and we shot the feature in the Warriors practice facility.  Here are some behind the scenes photos with photographer Jake Stangel:

All I can think about when I see this photo is a quote from one of the greatest movies of all time...Clueless: 'My plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activities where balls fly at my nose.' Please note. I have not had any work done. It's just a quote. As If!!!Fierce. Werk in those high heels on that exercise mat tall lady!It was such a fun shoot and one of the most amazing parts about it (besides the fact that it was happening) is that one of my best friends Holley (my Silly SIL) was in the building making sure I was looking my fiercest.

I'm in a national magazine yall! A huge thank you to God (always and forever), Arianne Cohen, Bloomberg BuisnessWeek, Jake Stangel, Alis Atwell (photo editor and coordinator of the shoot) and last but certainly not least make-up artist extraordinare Nikki Notarte for beating this face and whipping this hair for the piece.  This tall girl is so incredibly thankful!

Print can be kind of tricky.  Do I wear multiple prints together?  If I do, should they be the same size? Should I even bother?

Yes.  You can rock them and rock them well.

How?  Here are a couple of quick tips...

1) Don't be scared. While they may look loud on the hanger, you will never know until you try them on.  Take those puppies off the rack and see how they look on you.  The worst thing that can happen is that you don't like them.  On to the next.  Now that wasn't so bad.

2) Pair a small print with a large print. This doesn't work every single time but 9 times out of 10 pairing a small print with a large print looks amazing.  They are just different enough to match.  Unless it is a set that is made to go together (which for the record I am not fond of), matching a small print with a large one creates an amazing match.

3) Watch your colors.  I am all about experimenting, but two loud prints, with loud colors might not be the best thing to do.  Finding prints that have colors that compliment one another will create a very happy fit. For example, a neutral print paired with a loud print is a color winner.

4) Frost lightly.  I love jewelry of all shapes and sizes but when it comes to print, let it speak for itself.  Keep the frosting to a minimum.  Side note: I am wearing clip-on earrings in this post.  I love clip-ons for many reasons but the main one is that the piercing of my ears is uneven.  I was 6, it hurt, I kicked the guy that was piercing my ears and voila: uneven holes.  Thus, when it comes to smallish earrings, clip-ons are a winner for me.

5) Don't follow the rules completely. As with any advice I give, follow what you want and do what you want.  You are the master of your style. Rule the way you want to.

Now that you have some style nuggets on print, I want to see how you rock it.  Submit your print looks to info@TallSWAG.com. Work that print tall Beauties:-)

Tie Me Up

Dress - Orange Tie-Dye Strapless Maxi Dress from Method Boutique (size M)/Earrings - Candid Art Accessories/Bracelet - Forever 21/Shoes - Target (size 11)/Clutch - Thrifted

I love me some tie-dye.  Wait.  Only if done right.  A head-to-toe suit, with tie-dye dress shoes is not acceptable. I actually saw that. True story.

One tall retailer who hit this trend in the exact RIGHT way is the Method Boutique.  Not only did they serve amazing tie-dye they delivered it in a maxi dress that hits the floor! Go ahead.  Get your happy dance on.  I was wearing 4" heels and it still had some hang time.  I floated around all day.

This maxi is perfect for many summer occasions including being the hottest thing walking in a heat wave:) I was asked where I got it from women (and one man, get it sir) of every height.  It's a definite show stopper.

The dress is so beautiful that I really didn't need anything loud to go with it so I paired it with simple, yet striking frosting and a neutral clutch.

So...how are you rockin the tie-dye?

Hot Potato Cold Potato

Farrah Bow Blouse - Height Goddess/Tall Ultra Skinny Pants - GAP/Shoes - Kelsi Dagger Eliza from Barefoot Tess (size 12)/Tank - Long Tall Sally Stretch Cotton Cami/Bag - Thrifted

It's summer! I am doing a little dance.  I wish you could see it.  It's a cross between the Carlton and the Carlton.

For me, every summer brings one of style life's hardest questions: What do you wear in a cold office on a super hot day?

You don't want to throw on a mediocre cardigan over a cute summer fit, you sure don't want to dress like an Eskimo in the middle of summer and attacking the thermostat is just not an option (I tried it and it wasn't pretty).  So what do you do?

Make a compromise. Find clothing that covers for the cold office but breathes on the hot path to and from work.

One of my go-to pieces that does this is the Farrah Bow Blouse from Height Goddess.  It's sheer, long enough in the arms and works in any season for many situations.  It's the perfect compromise for the hot-cold conundrum.

I paired the Farrah with some sleek ankle pants and one of my favorite shoe finds, the Kelsi Dagger Eliza Heel from Barefoot Tess. They are timeless shoes that ALWAYS get compliments. A lady tried to take them off my feet last time I wore them.  Was she joking? Yes.  But I don't joke when it comes to shoes so she didn't get a "joking" Alicia back. Don't mess with the pumps lady!

So there you have it.  I know.  You can sleep now.  Thank a tall girl later:)
